About the Dermacolor Camouflage System

The Dermacolor Camouflage System is the paramedical line developed by KRYOLAN Professional Make-up. The Dermacolor Camouflage Cream is an especially highly pigmented make-up which is designed to correct and cover skin disfigurements, discolorations and tattoos. Dermacolor Camouflage System is especially effective in minimizing post surgical conditions - either aesthetic or medical. Its effectiveness and quality are proven in intensive and long-term use under clinical supervision. The intermixable skin tones allow a natural appearance when applied as directed.

With the most advanced Camouflage System, the stress and psychological factors arising from such skin problems are lessened and the user will feel greater confidence.

With proper use of the Dermacolor Camouflage System skin abnormalities can be easily corrected. Ones DC Camouflage Cream is fixed using Fixing Powder and Fixing Spray from Dermacolor it will be waterproof and protects the skin against damaging UV radiation. DC Camouflage could last even under extreme conditions like swimming, heat and physical strain.

Use of the Dermacolor Camouflage System should be supervised by a paramedical consultant for Dermacolor. However, if this is not possible, one can begin the program by carefully following the instructions enclosed in each package of Dermacolor Camouflage Cream or read more in the section Application.

Extract of a Test Approval

To begin with, a total of 100 patients were subjected to epicutaneous testing of the skin of their backs for periods of time ranging from 48 to 72 hours. These tests were performed by applying Dermacolor Camouflage Cream D4 to an adhesive test bandage and then applying the bandage to the skin for the periods stated above.

All the patients were tested on an inpatient basis and were observed during the entire procedure of the test. No skin intolerance reaction to Dermacolor Camouflage Cream D4 was observed.

In a second series of tests, Dermacolor Camouflage Cream D4 was applied to the skin of the face, neck, and ear regions. These tests were administered to patients who were known to exhibit sensitivity in these skin regions. This Dermacolor Camouflage Cream D4 testing was performed on 22 patients with skin sensitivity, on areas of skin which had already exhibited changes. No irritation of the skin was observed with these patients. The conclusion is that Dermacolor Camouflage Cream D4 is satisfactorily tolerated by the skin and that sensitivity reactions were not observed during this testing.

It deserves to be recorded here that no positive test results were observed with Dermacolor Camouflage Cream D4, even with the test persons who were known to have extreme sensitivity to various medications and preservatives.

It must also be noted that a second series of tests was performed with

Dermacolor Camouflage Cream D4, with repeated application to the skin four weeks after primary exposure. Even after the secondary exposure, no skin reaction could be determined. This test was performed on a group of 32 patients.

In all these cases, now as before, Kryolan has directed prime importance to assuring excellent skin compatibility of each and every one of its products. In their development work, Kryolan chemists pay unceasing attention to the high safety standards of the formulation. They know full well that the skin of actors and actresses, one of their most precious assets, must without difficulty be able to tolerate Kryolan preparations on a daily, long-term basis. Together with the Kryolan microbiologist, company chemists carefully monitor the manufacture of each product, and guarantee in this way the high quality and purity of each production batch.

And to be doubly safe, Kryolan preparations are intensively tested on a clinical basis. With successful results. To take only one example, the product Aquacolor, a Berlin University Medical Centre has reached the following assessment: In tolerance testing, we determined outstanding skin compatibility. From the dermatological and allergological standpoints, nothing speaks against extensive application of the product.

Kryolan, however, has always refused to test its products on animals. No Kryolan product has ever been tested on an animal.

Preparation of the skin
Clean the skin properly before applying camouflage make-up. Apply Dermacolor Cleansing Lotion with cotton pads gently onto the skin. The use of DC Cleansing Lotion ensures the waterproofing properties of the camouflage. If needed, apply DC Moisturizer Cream afterwards.

Color choice
From the various shades available, choose a shade which closely matches the skintone. Such matching should preferably be done in daylight for optimum results. Remember that DC Camouflage Cream is intermixable and a mixture of shades may be required in order to achieve a better result.

Your natural skin tone may vary from time to time due to environmental influences such as sunlight and changing seasons, therefore, it is recommended to have 2-3 different shades available. Occasionally check which shade is most appropriate.

Application
For an easy application of Dermacolor apply DC Camouflage Cream onto the back of the hand. It is recommended to use a DC Applicator for an easy and hygienic sampling of DC Camouflage Cream from the container or palette. Apply DC Camouflage Cream thinly and evenly with a sponge or using fingers for about 2 cm past the edge of the area you would like to camouflage by taking DC Camouflage Cream from the back of your hand. Blend the DC Cream away from the edges with a sponge or brush. It may be necessary to dampen the sponge during the application. The mixing of skin tones gives a natural appearance when applied as directed.

DC Camouflage Cream can be applied in several layers to get a perfect result.

Shading
To achieve a natural camouflage effect, proper highlighting and shading (or the application of rouge) is necessary. D32 is the ideal rouge color.

Apply gently and blend in the choice of Dermacolor Rouge from the cheekbone fading away at the temple. Eyebrows and the male beard and moustache areas can be shaded with D40 or other comparable dark colors. It is recommended to use the Stipple Sponge (Kryolan Art. 1454) to achieve a perfect result.

Powdering/Fixing
After DC Camouflage Cream has been applied correctly, powder the make-up with DC Fixing Powder using a powder puff so that all the corrected areas are covered. While powdering, make sure that you press the powder into the make-up. It is not sufficient to superficially powder just the camouflage. Dust off the excess powder with a powder brush or remove it gently with a damp sponge. After this fixing process, the treated areas are abrasion and water-proof. This effect can be further enhanced by the use of DC Fixing Spray especially on problematic areas such as neck and hands. It is recommended to spray DC Fixing Spray from a distance of approx. 1 ft. onto the skin.

Uneven Skin
Under special circumstances, if the skin has scars or uneven surfaces, these can be smoothed over with Dermacolor Skin Plastic. However, it is recommended that DC Skin Plastic be applied by a trained make-up artist. For filling scars where flexibility is needed, we recommend Cine-Wax or Artex.

Additional Make-up
If desired, a dry make-up may be applied over the treated areas.

Touching up
Touch up is not necessary. Once Dermacolor products are applied as directed the make-up will be waterproof and should last the whole day. If a touch up is still needed reapplication of Dermacolor is suggested.

Removal
Use Dermacolor Cleansing Cream, or in the case of very sensitive skin, Dermacolor Cleansing Milk. Apply Dermacolor cleansing preparations gently onto the made up skin areas until the camouflage is gently removed from the skin. The use of cotton pads is recommended. A second application may be required.

Final Cleansing
For the final cleansing apply Dermacolor Cleansing Lotion using cotton pads gently onto the desired skin area. For a milder application of DC Cleansing Lotion, you may wish to dilute your product with distilled water.
