Beaded Hearts

Designed by by Jana Shweiki for Preciosa

Want to show a bit of love and appreciation to your significant other? Or how about a way to create heart-shaped focal pieces for any occasion? This tutorial shows you how to make beaded hearts using Preciosa Seed Bead Rocailles.

While the colors here are red, you can of course change it up to make the design uniquely yours!

YOU WILL NEED

Preciosa Rocailles 6/0 in any color but here you'll see

Heart 1: Terra Intensive Red Matte (This will be R6 in the tutorial)

Heart 2: Terra Intensive Lined Red (For the second heart)

A 0.20 mm line; a sewing or beading needle; scissors; pliers, jump rings of 8 or 10mm for joining (depending on your preference)

Step 1:

Cut off 80 cm of the line. String 4x red R6  and tie the ends together near the end. Thread the line around the base several times.

Step 2:

String 1x red R6 and pass the needle through the adjacent R6 in the base. Insert 1x R6 between all the base seed beads in this manner, i.e. a total of 4x.

Step 3:

The line will protrude from an R6 added to the second row. String 3x red R6 and pass the thread through the other R6 added in the second row. Repeat this 3x. When adding the last three R6, pass the needle not only through the R6 added in the second row, but also through one R6 added in the third row.

Step Four:

Thread the needle through every other R6 in the next three R6 so that a kind of point emerges. Simply always omit the top R6. Repeat this all the way around, but in the last step pull the needle through one of the four R6 so that the needle emerges from the R6 in the point.

Step Five:

String 7x red R6 and thread the needle through the next R6 in the point. Do this one more time. You can strengthen the heart by sewing through it one more time.

Step Six:

Sew the ends of the line into the nearest seed beads, cut them off and you have finished the heart. You can then use jump rings to connect each heart together to create a chain for a necklace or bracelet, or keep the hearts separate for a focal piece.
